This year marks the College Arts and Humanities Institute’s 25th anniversary, which will be honored with an all-day symposium on October 8.
After welcoming remarks, the symposium will begin with a panel of faculty including Melissa Dinverno (Spanish and Portuguese), Shane Greene (Anthropology), Ross Gay (English and Creative Writing), Eric Mayer-García (Theatre and Drama), and Eunice Lee (American Studies and Asian American Studies), who will talk about their CAHI-supported work, how that work has shaped them, and their involvement with the arts and humanities.
We will then hear from past CAHI directors Andrea Ciccarelli (French and Italian), Jonathan Elmer (English), and Brenda Weber (Gender Studies), followed by a conversation moderated by Ed Dallis-Comentale, Assistant Vice President for Arts and Humanities Research (who also served as an interim director of CAHI).
The symposium will conclude with a keynote lecture by Sara Guyer titled “The Idea of the Humanities Institute.” Sara Guyer is Irving and Jean Stone Dean of the Division of Arts & Humanities at the University of California, Berkeley and former president of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes (CHCI).
