Global Gateway Grants, administered by the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs (OVPIA),  provide support of up to $5,000 to organize activities—such as workshops, symposia, public talks, and artistic performances—that take place at one or more of IU's Global Gateway offices in Accra, Bangkok, Beijing, Berlin, Mexico City, and New Delhi.

Tenure-stream College faculty whose primary area of research or creative activity is in the arts and humanities may apply to the CAHI for up to $5,000 in matching funds to cover IU faculty travel (as well as lodging and per diem) to the Gateway offices for these activities. Together, CAHI and OVPIA may provide combined funding of up to $10,000.

Preference is given to proposals for activities that: lead to continuing research or creative collaborations; build on existing partnerships or create new strategic partnerships; or that promote institutional development projects. Appropriate activities include conferences, workshops, or creative performances that feature international collaboration.

Narrative statement:

Provide a 1-2-page (double-spaced) statement that describes the proposed activity, addressing the selection criteria above, and includes the following:

• Provide details of the participating individuals from IU and external institutions.
• Describe the links between your unit/department and any partner institution(s) in the Gateway country/region.
• What are the benefits of collaborating with a partner institution at the Gateway?
• What is your preferred date/time for the activity?
• If funds have been committed from other sources (see funding rules below), provide details.

Eligibility:

Who may apply: Tenure-track (and tenured) core College faculty members in the arts and humanities at Indiana University Bloomington. Faculty in the Hamilton Lugar School are also eligibal to apply. As of Fall 2025, those in the Eskenazi School, the Media School, or other departments/programs/centers outside of the College are not eligible to apply for the CAHI Global Gateway Grants, but may be eligible to apply for other Global Gateway Grants.

Funding rules:

Together, CAHI and OVPIA will provide grants up to $10,000. Mild preference may be given to applications with funds committed from other sources, e.g. applicant’s department or school. CAHI Global Gateway Grants cannot be combined with CAHI Research Travel Grants or other OVPIA grants for the same event. CAHI funds are earmarked for faculty travel and accommodation only.

Deadlines:

OVPIA holds four deadlines each year: October 1, February 1, April 1, and July 1. Please submit proposals at least twelve weeks in advance of the event date.

CAHI holds two application deadlines for matching funds each year, on October 15 (with decisions expected by mid-December) and March 1 (with decisions expected by mid-April). Off-cycle requests to CAHI will not be considered.
