Meet the Author: Gabriel Peoples

Wednesday, December 3, 2025

4:30 P.M.

Location: Gayle Karch Cook Center for Public Arts and Humanities (Maxwell Hall), Grand Hall

The College Arts + Humanities Institute is delighted to present a Meet the Author talk by Gabriel Peoples, Assistant Professor of Gender Studies at IU Bloomington. Professor Peoples will discuss his recent book, Goin’ Viral: Uncontrollable Black Performance (University of Illinois Press).

In Goin’ Viral, Professor Peoples explores the contours of gender expression, race, and sexuality in visual culture, film, and viral video, particularly in relationship to Black people and representations of Black people that have gone viral from the eighteenth century to today, to understand how performance circulates in ways that materially affect Black life.

Gabriel Peoples is an Assistant Professor whose research is located at the nexus of Performance, Gender, and Africana Studies.
